Publication Ethics
Jurnal Pena Pendidikan Dasar is fully committed to upholding academic integrity and the highest ethical standards in the entire process of scientific publication. This publication ethics statement adheres to the guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and applies to all parties involved in the journal's publishing process, namely: the Editor, Peer Reviewer, Author, and Publisher.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor
-
Publication Decisions: The Editor is fully responsible for deciding which manuscripts should be published based on their significance, originality, and scientific clarity. This decision also considers the editorial board's policies, as well as legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
-
Fair and Efficient Process: Manuscripts should be evaluated based on their intellectual content without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy. The Editor must ensure the peer-review process is fair, efficient, and timely.
-
Confidentiality: The Editor must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding authors, reviewers, and the publisher, and only on a need-to-know basis.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors should not use unpublished material from a submitted manuscript for their own personal research without the written consent of the author. Editors must also withdraw from the editorial process if there is a conflict of interest.
-
Corrections and Retractions: The Editor must facilitate the publication of corrections, clarifications, or retractions of articles if significant errors or ethical violations are found.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Peer Reviewer
-
Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Reviewers assist the editor in making editorial decisions and providing constructive feedback for manuscript improvement.
-
Punctuality: Reviewers should accept or decline the review assignment only if they have the relevant subject expertise and can complete it on time.
-
Confidentiality: Every manuscript must be treated as a confidential document. It must not be distributed to or discussed with others without the editor's permission.
-
Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviews should be supported by clear arguments.
-
Source Acknowledgment: Reviewers should identify and recommend relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers should not review manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Author
-
Reporting Standards: Authors must present an accurate and objective report of the research. Data should be honestly represented, and the description of methods must be sufficiently detailed for others to replicate the study. Reporting that involves deceit, falsification, or fabrication of data is unethical behavior.
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must guarantee that the submitted work is entirely original. If they use the work or words of others, they must be properly cited. Plagiarism in all its forms is unacceptable.
-
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is also unethical.
-
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the contributions and work of others must be given. All sources of funding must also be disclosed.
-
Authorship: Authorship should accurately reflect individual contributions to the research and the writing of the manuscript. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript.
-
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors must disclose any financial or substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
-
Fundamental Errors: If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate to retract or correct the manuscript.
-
Use of AI Tools: The use of AI tools is permissible for writing support (e.g., grammar check), but not for generating primary scientific content or data analysis. AI cannot be listed as an author, and authors must explicitly state if they used an AI tool, while taking full responsibility for the accuracy and ethics of the generated content.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher
-
Relationship and Confidentiality: To define the relationship between the publisher, editor, and other involved parties, and to maintain the privacy of all parties.
-
Copyright and Intellectual Property: To protect intellectual property and copyright.
-
Editorial Independence: To encourage and maintain editorial independence.
-
Ethics Oversight: To work with editors to ensure that all journal policies, including research ethics and academic integrity, are met.
-
Transparency and Availability: To maintain the integrity of the academic record, publish content in a timely manner, and facilitate the investigation of alleged misconduct.
